When it comes New Jersey's special U.S. Senate race Democrat Newark Mayor Cory Booker has star power and a multi-million dollar war chest but Republican candidate and former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan has none of that.

Knowing the odds against him, the West Jersey Tea Party group is throwing its support behind Lonegan.

West Jersey Tea Party Founder Bill Haney cites Lonegan's unwaning commitment to conservative principals as their reason for backing the underdog. "He has stood up the conservative values of smaller government, lower taxes, individual responsibility ever since he entered the political arena."

While Haney admits the Tea Party is not a Republican organization and in many cases vehemently disagrees with New Jersey's more moderate, Big Tent Republican ideologies, he is calling on the GOP to rally behind Lonegan.

"The best way that they can show concern is for every Republican organization in every County of New Jersey to Mobilize as many people as they can to capture this seat for Steve Lonegan, says Haney."

Haney is also urging GOP members to send donations to the Lonegan campaign.
