Police say Debra Foley, 56, was southbound on the highway at 6:30 AM when a northbound SUV drifted into her lane. The impact caused the SUV to flip over and forced Foley's car to skitter onto an adjoining front lawn on North Main Street.

According to authorities, Foley was trapped inside her 1998 Buick LeSabre and required extrication by volunteer firefighers. She was flown to Atlanticare Trauma Center in Atlantic City.

The SUV driver, Katrina Beamon, 45, of Bronx, New York, and a passenger, Anthony Hardy, 40, of Queens, New York, were treated for minor injuries at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin.

Members of Barnegat Fire Company 11 handled the extrication and the acreage behind Elizabeth V. Edwards School was used as a landing and takeoff spot for the MONOC chopper that ferried Foley.

Birdsall Street was closed during the transfer. Route 9 remained closed for about an hour during investigations.

Beamon was ticketed for failing to maintain a lane of travel.
