DEAL — Two accused burglars didn't need their own car. Police said they hired a taxi to take them to and from a home they burglarized.

Kenneth Burke, 46, of Asbury Park, and Timothy Foote, 38, of Ocean Township, hailed a cab last Friday to take them to Norwood Avenue in neighboring Deal, police said. They asked the driver to wait for them and came back carrying a television and several bottles of liquor, according to police.

The cab driver took Burke and Foote back to Asbury Park, police said.

They could have gotten away, but when Burke and Foote didn't pay their fare, the driver reported them to police, according to police. Deal police uncovered the burglary when they went to the home at Norwood and Poplar, they said.

Burke and Foote were arrested and charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal trespass and theft. They are being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution with bail set at $20,000.

All the items that had been stolen from the home were returned, police said.
