The Important Anniversary!
I certainly don’t consider myself an egomaniac or a “bragger” because I’ve been around enough of them in my life to know one when I see or hear one. Of course I guess nobody really thinks they are or at least admits to it. Anyway last week I did a segment on my 42nd anniversary at WOBM not for pats on the back but just to point out that being around in the same place for this long was not the plan…but I guess that happens to many of us.
However I did plan on being married to the same woman for a long time and that one has come true even if my other half had her doubts. On July 25, 1981 Jane Viggiano became Jane Williams and through the usual ups and downs, good times and bad, laughter and tears we are still together and marked our 40th wedding anniversary over the weekend with a celebration that included dinner at Chef Mike’s ABG along with our good friends, Joe & Darlene who recently celebrated their 37th anniversary.
We were married on a very hot and humid day which started with me having breakfast with a couple of friends at a place called Barney’s in Seaside Heights which is long gone. I was a bit nervous about our wedding vows which we had written and memorized and Jane implored me not to screw them up. My best man Tom loosened me up with some pre-wedding champagne and I performed flawlessly while Jane flubbed hers a bit, something I remind her of often. Following the ceremony at Saint Veronica in Howell it was on to what was then Mike Doolan’s in Spring Lake for a fabulous reception.
These 40 years have flown by (at least for me) and we have been blessed with two great kids (and now a daughter-in-law and grandson). Nobody has to tell me I have gotten the better end of the deal when I married Jane…I’m reminded each time I look at her.
