He thought he was meeting a 14-year-old for sex last October. Instead, Michael Schiavo met detectives from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and Hamilton Police Department. Now, he'll spend up to five years in prison for it.

The Deptford 53-year-old was sentenced today in Mays Landing for attempted luring and attempted sexual assault, stemming from his activity in an Internet chat room.

Investigators say Schiavo invested time in soliciting the chat partner he assumed to be a teenage girl, but who in reality was an undercover detective working under acting county Prosecutor Jim McClain.

Authorities say Schiavo arranged a meeting in Mays Landing for October 5, 2011, which is where he was taken into custody and released after posting $100,000 bail.

Schiavo took a plea bargain last August 29, accepting the second-degree charges. Superior Court Judge Mark Sandson also ordered Schiavo to undergo lifetime parole supervision and to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law stipulations.
