Search and Rescue

The search for a missing person in a lagoon off of Sandlewood Drive in Bayville last night has ended in tragedy.

Along with the hundreds of human heroes who saved lives and sacrificed their own on September 11, 2001, there were also many search and rescue dogs involved in the aftermath of the worst terrorist attack on American soil.

A Toms River native who was awarded one of the Navy's highest honors shared his heroic story with WOBM.   Petty Officer 3rd Class Travis Kirckof received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal after he saved the lives of at least two of his shipmates when their ship ran aground in the Pacific Ocean.  T...
