Route 35

Part of Route 35 in Bay Head will be closed for several weeks starting 10 a.m. Monday  due to roadway and drainage reconstruction. According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the work is part of a $265 million Superstorm Sandy response project that began in the summer of 2013. To avoid bottlenecks getting into Seaside Heights this weekend for the three-day Columbus Day Festival, avoid using Route 35 and take Route 37 through Toms River instead, New Jersey Department of Transportation officials advise.

BREAKING NEWS Route 35 is shut down in Ortley Beach near the border with Seaside Heights after crews working on the reconstruction of the highway reportedly struck a gas main shortly before 9 this morning. Fire crews are said to be evacuating some nearby homes.

Bay Head is hoping the New Jersey Department of Transportation follows through with a promise to be out of the borough with a fully-paved Route 35 by May 22.
