Ocean County Hunger Relief

As we now count down the hours until Thanksgiving Day, most of us are looking forward to spending the day with loved ones, but there are many in Ocean County who may be going hungry on Thanksgiving.

The outreach center on Germania Station Road handles a network of 26 food pantries throughout the county. An average of 6,000 to 7,000 people are fed per month through the organization.

During this years statewide Point-In-Time survey which counts Jerseys homeless population, the Non-Profit Ocean County Hunger Relief continues their year round outreach to those seeking the necessities.

I just did some spring cleaning in my closet, pulling out the items I haven't worn in a while, and setting them aside for charity.  I know it's hard to part with clothing, but if it doesn't fit or doesn't really match anything, why not give it away...

Ocean County Hunger Relief has been spending thousands of dollars to provide furniture, household items, toiletries and food to more than 40 homeless people, according to Carol Latif, Executive Director of the Toms River non-profit agency.

Ocean County Hunger Relief is unsure what impact the sale of a warehouse it leases on Germania Station Road in Toms River will have on the non-profit agency's mission after learning the property has been sold.

Staffers at Community Medical Center in Toms River mark an unprecedented level of donations in their annual Healthcare Harvest food drive, amassing 107,046 pounds of nourishment for the needy in Ocean County. That's nearly 55 tons.

It's not so much the massive relief agencies but the small nonprofit and faith-based groups that have been quick to respond to the needs of their storm-ravaged communities.

Homeless residents in Ocean County are being counted for a Point in Time survey which hopes to address the various needs of those struggling for shelter throughout the county.
