Ocean County History

I always enjoy an opportunity to share some cool "American History" with you when it comes from New Jersey and the Jersey Shore. It's always exciting to me to learn about the history of where we live and what happened before our time here in the Garden State.

Ocean County came into existence after a portion of Monmouth County was cut to become Ocean, Burlington County also annexed Little Egg Harbor to give Ocean County its final map in 1891.

History is an amazing topic and I love when we can bring you local history right here in our area. New Jersey is full of history and it's all around you.

I am always on the lookout for local history and if you are like me, you love to learn more about the area we call home. This piece of Ocean County history is right under our noses here in the "county seat".

According to lure, the station was used by the Germans at the beginning of WWI to send secret transmissions between the Ocean County location to Eilvese, Germany beginning June 14th, 1914. However once the U.S. entered the War the station was seized and turned over to the U.S. Navy. Also according to lure, the station was used to send instructions for the sinking of the RMS Lusitania.

I wanted to write an article which celebrated Ocean County history and maybe gave readers a better understanding of events that changed life here in Ocean County. From the very beginning in 1850 until modern times. Of course these are my choices and maybe you will agree or maybe you can add some items you think are extremely important in Ocean County history.
