Heroin epidemic

Mercer County-based City of Angels has been no stranger to our airwaves in the last several months, but a few exciting developments over the summer are helping the group expand its advocacy even further.

Finding solutions to the opioid abuse epidemic takes center stage Friday at New Jersey’s first comprehensive forum on the issue, being held by The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey.

Among the victims of New Jersey's struggle with a heroin-addiction epidemic are children whose parents are jailed or admitted into drug treatment programs.

New Jersey is in the throes of a heroin and opioid addiction epidemic, but the rest of the country is no stranger to the crisis according to one New Jersey Congressman.

It's an all-too-familiar story. Kids start experimenting with drugs and alcohol in middle or junior high school, and by the time they finish high school they've started using harder drugs and eventually get hooked on heroin.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office fight against heroin continues with another drug forum next month, expected to be powerful enough to get younger audience members wanting to continue the discussion, according to Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Anthony V. Pierro.

In the ongoing effort to raise awareness about Ocean County's heroin epidemic, Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato is holding another forum, "Can We Talk? Are You Listening?" on Tuesday, October 22, at Pinelands Regional High School.

Law Enforcement Prevention and the Medical Community are joining forces to discuss solutions to New Jersey's prescription drug and heroin abuse epidemic during statewide symposiums being held this week in Ocean, Camden and Morris Counties.
