I'll start with a disclaimer - I'm not a parent. I'm simply an outsider looking in on this phenomena. Although, in fairness, I was a kid once and I remember things being distinctly different than they are today.

This afternoon was our annual office holiday luncheon. As is tradition, it included a gift exchange. And for the second year, I bowed out.

There are a few things that we can count on this time of year - houses decorated to the hilt, our favorite carols on the radio, and packed parking lots at Ocean County's shopping centers.

As we're all running around town and surfing the web to work on the list of those who've been nice this year and are getting gifts, some people's lists include the four legged members of the family, too.

It says that if you mail a gift (valued at $10) that you'll receive 36 gifts in the mail. That sounds great, right? Unfortunately, it turns out that it is pyramid scheme, and it may even be illegal, according to authorities.
