Many in the Garden State may not realize the season lasts through Nov. 30, but the upcoming 10-year anniversary of the onslaught of Superstorm Sandy may serve as a reminder to some.
As far as what's "normal," NOAA's definition of that itself is changing. Now, an average season will be defined as having 14 named storms, seven of which become hurricanes.
There's a higher probability of major hurricanes and more named storms in updated Atlantic Hurricane Season data by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which stands by its prediction that 2016 will be the most active since 2012 - the year of Superstorm Sandy.
