Adoption

This is an update to an earlier story that we brought to you. Few weeks ago we told you about Ginger the husky that was found left in a cage in the Barnegat woods with no food or water. Luckily Ginger was found by a local resident and turned over to authorities.

Perhaps you've fostered and/or adopted a child? Maybe you were raised by parents who adopted you?

Assuming Barbra Streisand's decision to clone her beloved dog came from that deep love that we all have for our pets, I can sort of understand her motivation. But if I had to chose one side or the other, I'd rather adopt a dog rather than clone. What are your reasons for and against cloning?

It's the day after the Superbowl.  And the day after the Puppy Bowl, the brilliant counter-programming on Animal Planet that gives non-sporty types a chance to oooh and ahhh at adorable dogs playing their version of football.  It is an abundance of cuteness that you and your coworkers are likely talking about at work today...

With tomorrow being "Clear The Shelters Day," I want to give you a nudge.  If you've been sitting on the fence, please at least visit a shelter or go to Petfinder and e-mail some folks about your possible interest in pet adoption.  By talking with other dog owners or fosters, you'll get a sense of what day to day life is with a dog...

Jesse the dachshund had a bit of a sad story - his owners were moving and surrendered the 10 year old pup to the Jersey Shore Animal Center. Things weren't going well for Jesse, he wasn't eating and just seemed to be waiting for his owners to come back. Then, something amazing happened.

When you have decided that it's time to bring a pet into your family, there are many options to get one. You can buy a puppy or kitten (sometimes spending hundreds of dollars), you can adopt a puppy or kitten, or you can adopt an adult animal. I am an enthusiastic advocate of the latter.

There are few things I love more than a great pet rescue story with a happy ending. Which is exactly what happened here. A rescue organization was alerted to a senior dog living in a dangerous situation at a water treatment plant. They were faced with a scared and timid dog at the beginning, but by the end, his tail is wagging and he's getting belly rubs. Check it out:
