News broke Sunday that a very popular Jersey Shore destination for out-of-this-world sweet treats was sold. What does the future hold?

The owners of decadent donut shop Purple Glaze in Asbury Park announced that they have sold the business.

The Delicious Donut Creations from Purple Glaze in Asbury Park

On Facebook, Jackie Sharpe reminisced about the past six years on Summerfield Avenue. It was actually her son Wesley's idea to open the donut shop. He was also the inspiration for the weekly Metal Donut specials.

Jackie and Dom Sharpe have been a part of so many momentous occasions. They've seen couples unite in marriage, children celebrate birthdays, and every occasion in between.

Jackie spoke about how wonderful it has been to watch her staff grow up in front of her eyes. Many employees would start working in high school, work on college breaks, and go on to have successful careers.

Sharpe added that so many customers over the years have become very good friends. She is blessed for that.

Purple Glaze has gained such an amazing reputation in Asbury Park and beyond. Purple Glaze is more than a gourmet donut shop, in many ways, it's one of the hubs of the community.

In good times and bad, the Purple Glaze team has been able to lift spirits with their spectacular creations. They have given back to the community in so many ways it's hard to list them all.

So, what's next for Purple Glaze? Good news. It's not closing. In the Facebook post, owner Jackie Sharpe made it clear that the business is not in trouble. Instead, Jackie and her husband want to retire.

Customers turned friends, Kevin McDonough and Rich Silva have purchased Purple Glaze. Jackie in her Facebook post said:

They’re the perfect fit for the shop as they are local & have been loyal customers. They’re keeping our staff, will continue to provide the same delicious, high-quality donuts & will continue to support the community.

To the Sharpe's, the current and past staff of Purple Glaze, thank you for the smiles, devotion to Asbury Park, and your knack to always satisfy our sweet tooths.

With the current staff in place and new local owners, Kevin and Rich, I'm sure Purple Glaze won't miss a step.
