Obama said he felt much better about his second debate performance because he got a good long nap during the first. Obama said he had gone shopping earlier in the day in stores in New York. He quipped that Romney had gone shopping for the stores.

Obama also said that he wished that like his rival, he wished he could use his middle name. Obama also mentioned that the unemployment rate has dropped to 7.8 percent. He said there was no joke to go with that news, he just wanted to take the opportunity to mention it again.

Romney, meanwhile, is poking fun at himself and at Obama, telling a white tie and gown crowd that, quote, "it's nice to finally relax and wear what Anne and I wear around the house."

Romney on Thursday joked with the audience at the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner in New York as Obama looked on. Through much of the evening, he sat just one chair down from the president. Only host Cardinal Timothy Dolan separated them.

Romney playfully jabbed at Obama, saying both candidates have crucial people on whom they rely. As Romney put it, "I have my beautiful wife, Ann, he's got Bill Clinton."
