Obama Pays Tribute To Those Who Died In Sandy
President Barack Obama is paying tribute to the Americans who died during Superstorm Sandy when it made landfall one year ago.
Obama said in a statement Tuesday that the last year has served as a reminder of the "strength and resilience of the American people."
The president says strangers helped each other and entire communities came together to heal.
Obama says the federal government has provided billions of dollars of assistance to hundreds of thousands of people and small business-owners through direct aid, grants and loans.
The storm was blamed for at least 181 deaths in the U.S. That includes 68 people who were killed in New York and 71 in New Jersey.
Property damages were estimated at $65 billion.
