Over $80 million dollars in Federal Defense funding is a good sign for military installations in the shore area. 4th District (R) Congressman Chris Smith says the House of Representatives passed the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA/HR 4310) which includes funding for a state-of-the-art Army Aviation Facility at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Lakehurst.

"This $47 million project will pay for the new hanger but it will also provide jobs. You know, we're talking now about a number of jobs to build it and of course it will retain well over 100 jobs."

Smith says the new hanger will house  the Communications and Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) Flight Activity (CFA), a group that did not relocate to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds during the most recent Base Closure and Realignment Commission decision (BRAC) .

Smith says the defense package also includes $34 million for a Regional Training Institute (RTI) at the National Guard Training Facility in Sea Girt.

The authorization moves to the Senate for consideration.
