Second-year Asbury Park High School football head coach Nick Famularo has been suspended after he was found partially clothed with a woman at the high school on Saturday morning, according to district officials.

A report by the Asbury Park Press on Thursday said that Famularo along with two assistant coaches and district Athletic Director Mark Gerbino have been suspended due to the incident.

According to the report, police were called to the high school stadium early Saturday morning on a report of a trespasser. When offers arrived they found Famularo partially clothed with a woman. New details uncovered by the APP on Friday indicated that when police arrived at the school they found Famularo outside with a football jersey covering his bottom half and seemingly intoxicated. A verbal argument then ensued between two women, one of whom was identified as Famularo's girlfriend. Upon entering the school, officers found uniforms covered in vomit and feces.

Later that day, Famularo coached the Blue Bishops during their NJSIAA playoff game at Penns Grove high school. Administrators have stated they were not made aware of the incident until after the football game was played.

The move comes with the Blue Bishops preparing for their annual long-running Thanksgiving Day game vs. Neptune. Assistant coach Robert Ward, who was listed as the team's offensive and defensive line coach in their season preview, will serve as acting head coach, Asbury Park School District Communications Coordinator Chanta L. Jackson told Shore Sports Network.

Famularo will not coach Asbury Park's Thanksgiving game vs. Neptune but there was no word on his status as head coach going forward.

"I cannot comment on Mr. Famularo’s employment as that is a personnel matter," Jackson wrote in an email to Shore Sports Network. "However, effective immediately Robert Ward is the acting head coach."

Asbury Park qualified for the NJSIAA playoffs and was the No. 5 seed in the South Jersey Group. The Blue Bishops were defeated by Penns Grove, 41-14, in the opening round to bring their season record to 4-5. They will host Neptune on Thanksgiving morning.

Famularo is a former standout football player and wrestler for Asbury Park who graduated in 2013. He then played football collegiately at South Carolina State University and Delaware State University. He was hired as head coach prior to the 2020 season to replace Tim Fosque, who was not rehired after five seasons that included winning the 2016 Central Jersey Group 1 state sectional championship.

Famularo is also an assistant wrestling coach at Asbury Park High School.
