Manchester Woman Dies in Leisure Village Fire

A Manchester woman is dead after fire broke out at her home in Leisure Village West.

Police say it happened around 6:38 AM on Saturday. Rita Hernandez, 78, was found unresponsive in her living room and pulled from the residence, but succumbed to her injuries. Two birds and a housecat also perished in the fire.

Nearby homes on Cambridge Circle were evacuated while the flames were being extinguished. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it is believed to have started in the kitchen.
