Five years of state prison without the possibility of parole is the sentence given to a Little Silver Police Officer for repeatedly punching a handcuffed suspect in the head, failing to take the suspect for medical treatment and lying to cover up his actions. According to the Asbury Park Press, 40-year-old Steven Solari learned his fate Thursday at the Monmouth County court house in Freehold after being convicted last year on Official Misconduct, Hindering His Own Apprehension and Simple Assault charges.

Solari was also ordered to forfeit his $91,000 post and is prohibited from public employment. However, his attorney maintains his innocence and said he plans to appeal the sentence.
