I’m a big runner, and now that I live at the Jersey Shore I’ve been putting in more daily miles than ever before.

There’s just something refreshing about running down the boardwalk and having the sea salt hitting your face, or running by the bay during sunset wishing that you were stopping to get ice cream instead.

Well speaking of ice cream, my family was vacationing in Lavallette last week and of course, that meant almost nightly trips to Iceberg Ice Cream on 35, which is great for my daily dose of serotonin but in the back of my head, all I can think about is the extra two or three miles I’m gonna have to tack on to my next run.

Last week, however, while in line for our nightly scoop, Rachel, my fiancee, just happened to pick up a giant “Enjoy Lavallette” postcard that had a bunch of great events listed on it.

There are so many awesome local events in this small beach town that it’s definitely worth the drive over the bridge to check some of these out if you don’t live on the island. Generally speaking too, parking in Lavallette is pretty easy. So that’s one less thing you don’t have to think about during some of these weekend excursions!

My eyes immediately jump to the Summer Kick-off 5K on the 25th. It’s funny, for as long as I’ve “been a runner” I’ve never done a 5K, no better time to start than while living at the shore right?

According to EnjoyLavallette.com the race kicks off at 9 AM on the 25th and you can go ahead and pre-register right here.

If you go ahead and register, you’ll be able to pick up your packet either Friday the 24th between 6 PM and 8 PM at Bayfront, Philadelphia, and Washington Avenues or on Saturday the 25th at 8 AM at the same location, but wait there's more!

If just running the race isn’t enough for you, you’ll also get a ticket for entrance to the Lavallette food truck festival happening from 3 PM to 9 PM on the same day as the run. I’ve stumbled into that food truck festival in the past even if you don’t run the race it’s worth checking out!
