It’s Band Season Once Again: Here’s What You Need To Know For 2018
The start of a new school year is a few days away, and while most students have that first day penciled on the calendar, there are quite a few students who have been hard at work on fall activities. Of course, the sports teams have been at it for a few weeks, and the sounds of band camps could be heard coming from many high school fields.
High school marching bands enhance football games, but the entire fall as well. Our local bands participate in a number of parades, and besides the halftime shows, they will also participate in a number of shows and competitions over the next few months. Here are some of the dates locally for the Tournament of Bands competitions:
September 22 – Matawan High School
September 29 – Egg Harbor High School
September 29 – Brick Memorial High School
October 6 – Toms River High School North
October 7 – Southern Regional High School
October 20 – Toms River High School East
October 20 – Central Regional High School
Some schools will be putting on other shows, and we’ll keep you up to date on them in Hometown Happenings. I had the pleasure of being one of the announcers for Central’s show last year (their first time hosting an event), and have been asked back for this year as well. It was a fun afternoon and evening of great music. This is one of the best activities that our local students participate in (in my opinion), and worth your support. And as is usually the case, quite a few of the schools are raising funds so the bands can go on various trips. So please help them out if you can.
