Authorities in Gloucester County say a "sophisticated organized crime group out of North Jersey" stole two high-end vehicles out of a closed home garage early Friday morning.

The Mantua Township Police Department says the brazen crime happened at a home on Breakneck Road.

The vehicles stolen were a Range Rover and Dodge TRX pickup truck.

According to authorities, "the suspects were likely able to gain access to their garage with an RFID reader and were likely specifically targeting the victims because of their vehicles."

This is not a random act of crime. These criminals will enter your home, will be armed and are extremely violent.

Upon entry into the garage, they were able to locate the keys to those vehicles inside the dwelling.

The Mantua Township Police Detective Bureau and New Jersey State Police Auto Theft Taskforce are investigating.

Keep your vehicle safe

Police say towns known to be quiet and safe are often targetted as people there are more likely to leave their vehicles unlocked or unsecured.

  • Keep the keys to your vehicle away from the vehicle.
  • Just because your car is in the garage, it still needs to be locked.
  • Avoid social media exposure with your vehicles.
  • Always check your surroundings if you could be followed.
