Heroin Overdose Claims Another Life in Ocean County

A 25 year old Toms River man dies from a suspected heroin overdose, marking the county's 53rd fatality from the highly addictive narcotic this year.

The unidentified victim was found unconscious at his house on Ottawa Court, and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Asbury Park Press reports police responded to the scene shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday after the victim's father found him on the floor and not breathing.

A 29 year old Barnegat woman, also found at the home, was treated at the hospital for a narcotics overdose. She survived.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says in the first six months of 2013, there are just as many deaths from drug-related overdoses than in all of 2012.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and Toms River Detective Mark Bajada are investigating.
