Up until a couple of days ago when I was in Canada, I have never heard of an "escape room". The funny thing is, since then I've gotten at least three emails with offers and coupons for local escape rooms. So what are they?

Escape rooms, or "Real Life Room Escape" are basically role playing games where you have a set amount of time to solve puzzles in order to "escape" from a locked room.

The challenges can be anything from mental puzzles to physical tasks that you have to complete before being able to unlock the room.

Of course, if you're not able to complete the challenges in the set time, you do still get out, you just get the booby prize of being embarrassed by the fact that you couldn't hack it.

Honestly, I don't know if I could do it. I don't mind puzzles and challenges, but I feel like the added pressure of a countdown clock would rattle me too much.

Apparently there are a few of these in New Jersey, so it could be worth getting a group of friends together to take on the challenge.
