The break occurred at 100 Crape Myrtle Drive, a short distance from Holmdel Road and near the Garden State Parkway.

Roughly 50 to 60 people were taken from the building and transported to the Holmdel Community Center, according to Michael Kinney at New Jersey Natural Gas.

Kinney said that the company was notified at about 11:50 AM, had crews on scene within 10 minutes and had secured the break by 12:30 PM.

A work team repairing fire sprinklers punctured the line in the building's attic, Kinney said, adding that service was turned off during the process, and will be restored after the structure is fully vented and the evacuees return. He anticipated that to be at about 3 PM.

There are no reports of injuries.
