ROCKAWAY — A man who worked as a police officer, a board of education member, and a high school assistant principal is facing charges for having an inappropriate relationship with a child living in his home.

Roger Schneider, 57, was indicted on one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact, and two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, according to Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp.

According to Knapp, the charges stem from an alleged relationship between Schneider and a child who was older than 13-years-old but younger than 16, between August of 2013 and January of 2015. According to NJ.com, the teen lived with Schneider on a part-time basis and was not a student in the Roxbury district.

Schneider has pleaded not guilty to the charges and declined to accept a plea deal. Last year during a court hearing, his lawyer said that the teen, who was seeking treatment for substance abuse, had recanted his allegations.

Prior to the charges, Schneider served as an assistant principal at Roxbury High School, and as a police officer in Clifton. He also served as a member of the Morris Hills Regional Board of Education. Knapp said Schneider has been placed on administrative leave by the Roxbury district and had resigned from the board of education.
