Flames inside a kitchen wall of a two-family home in Lakewood on Manetta Avenue, displaced nine people Monday afternoon, according to fire officials.

Everyone escaped unharmed. All nine residents were inside when they smelled smoke and called 9-1-1 around 3:30 p.m., according to fire officials.

The Asbury Park Press reports fire officials believe the blaze was electrical in nature.  Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames before they spread.

The fire burned the right side of the building, shooting up from the first to the second floor, but the home only sustained minor damage, according to fire officials.

The American Red Cross and the Ocean County Board of Social Services assisted the displaced residents.
