FEMA Releases Updated Flood Elevation Advisory Maps

They say hindsight is 20/20, and for every Jersey Shore resident and business owner who seeks to rebuild three words keep popping up in conversation: stronger, safer, and smarter.

In order to rebuild under these auspices, knowing future risk of flooding from another storm or future flooding event is at the top of FEMA's list of priorities for those who call the shore home.

Now, Jersey residents can view the recommendation for a specific addresses well as read more about the advisory map program through the FEMA website. Based on the available information in and around the area, advisory maps show how high structures should be elevated to minimize damage from future flood events. This, according to FEMA, should reduce future flood risk and decrease the cost of flood insurance. These newly released maps also show areas in new flood zones.

Property owners can find the data they need online in new advisory base flood elevation maps published by FEMA today. The maps contain recommended building elevations for Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Cape May, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Union counties.
