NEPTUNE- The New Jersey EMS Task Force, which provides urgent care at major catastrophes we well as public events statewide, now has a central communications location for meetings and emergency medical training.

"We know that when we have an incident and we need 20, 25 ambulances, there's a staging area," said Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden. "It comes down to planning and preparation and all of that occurs within this building."

The one-of-a-kind Emergency Medical Training Center opens on Route 33 in Neptune as a partnership of the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office, NJ EMS Task Force, Neptune Township and the NJ Department of Health.

"Post Sandy they (The Task Force) played such a vital role in deployment in and around our communities because all of our public safety resources were stretched to the max," said Golden. "To have them stationed here in Monmouth County is even more of a benefit to our residents within striking distance of the entire shore."

The facility is already the backup 911 Communications Center but now will host EMT training, administrative offices as well as living space for the NJ EMS Task Force.

Some situations requiring Medical Ambulance Buses (MAB) to go into action would include rehabilitation at major fires for those putting out the flames, evacuation of nursing homes and other larger facilities in need of emergency response.

The buses can also carry up to twenty people from a given sight, which helps numerous individuals receive care quicker and more efficiently than a multitude of ambulances.

The command center found a home on Route 33 because it provides ample space, said a spokesperson, and it allows constant communication to take place.

The Task Force will also conduct administrative chores daily, to prepare for emergency situations where backup is needed across the state.

"It takes a staff to maintain the equipment...maintain the training schedule," said Golden.

As a trained EMT and medic for more than 15 years, Golden knows how important such organization is to serving the community.

"Now we have a whole rank-and-file of regional coordinators in the county and they work with state coordination," said Golden. "We know we have the proper assets in terms of deployment..when we have major incidents."

Some of the training lessons taking place include EMT classes and CPR classes which now occurs in an EMS Academy, something Sheriff Golden has previously envisioned that this particular goal become a reality.

"One of my goals is to provide a home of classrooms and technology so that the EMT's and the medics can come here and train whenever they want," said Golden. "Day, evening, weekends because they don't sleep, it's a 24-hour operation."
