Developing – House Fire Blazes in Toms River [Video]

UPDATE - Toms River Police have confirmed a house fire on Gold Street. Several sources confirm that it's the home of former Toms River Mayor Roden Lightbody and his wife Novella "Pugs" Lightbody. They were not injured in the fire but a relative said they lost one of their two dogs. Local nonprofit Hometown Heroes is reaching out the assist the couple.

The following is the press release from the Toms River Police Department:

Police, Fire, and Toms River EMS units are currently on the scene of a structure fire at 514 Gold Street.  The fire broke out at 4:10 pm. . . The responding fire units are from Toms River # 1 & #2, east Dover, Pleasant Plains, Silverton, and Island Heights.  The incident was deemed under control at 5:19 pm however all responding agencies remain on scene as any secondary hot spots are extinguished.  The blaze broke out near the rear of the structure however it is too early to determine its cause.
