Colts Neck bicyclist rescued suffers unknown medical episode in Howell woods
A 48-year old Colts Neck man who suffered a "medical emergency" while riding his bike with two friends deep in the woods of Howell Township was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center around 6:45 pm Thursday and his current condition is unknown.
It was the victims friends who called 911 believing he may have just had a heart-attack and immediately police units from Howell Township, Wall Township and the New Jersey State Park Police responded deep within the woods of Allaire State Park near Blewett's Junk Yard on Herbertsville Road to rescue the man and get him immediate medical attention.
Officers were guided through the massive wooded area via GPS and coordination with dispatchers.
A man in the woods alerted and escorted Sergeant Michael Popek #247 and Patrolmen Ryan Lowe #655 and Ray Tillotson #668 from Howell to the scene where the biker was with Wall and State Park Police on the scene moments moments prior.
A brush truck from the Ramtown Fire Department was awaiting the victim and helped him into the Howell Police ambulance nearby.
"The actions of the patient’s friends and Good Samaritan who led officers to the scene assisted greatly in providing immediate care to the patient," Howell Township Police Sergeant Christian Antunez said in a statement.
