Barnegat's 4th of July fireworks will be moving starting this year.

They will no longer be at the bayfront location because of safety concerns for the community according to the patch.com. The Barnegat 4th of July fireworks will now be at Barnegat High School.

Many residents are surprised and upset by the announcement but Police Chief Keith A. Germain thinks the change is good especially for the safety of the community.

From the patch.com:

Germain cited safety concerns about the bayfront location in a message to residents Wednesday. Barnegat's fireworks display constitutes what the Department of Homeland Security defines as a mass gathering, he says.

That means the event is in an easily accessible location, attracts large numbers of people on a predictable or semi-predictable basis and may be vulnerable to attacks using simple tactics or ready available weapons.

It's very sad we have to live in a world where we have to fear this, but if it's a safety concern, then I personally think it's a good idea.
