Monmouth County Sheriff's Officers go on heightened alert in advance of the 13th anniversary of 9/11, fanning out to enhance security in critical spots.

"September 11th is a day of remembrance and reflection for our country," said Sheriff Shaun Golden in a prepared statement. "As always, our Law Enforcement Division will be working closely with local law enforcement agencies to take whatever steps are required to ensure the safety and security of the people who live and work in Monmouth County, as well as those who may be visiting."

Those measures include supplementing police patrols and conducting K-9 sweeps at ferry terminals, transportation centers, train stations, and major observances throughout the week.

Atlantic Highlands -  Monmouth County 9/11 Melmorial at Mount Mitchell Scenic Overlook - 8 a.m.

Howell - 911 Memorial located at the Preventorium complex., 7 p.m.

Manalapan - 9/11 Memorial on the Manalapan Township Arboretum in front of Town Hall - 7 p.m.

Middletown - Middletown WTC Memorial Garden at 8:45 a.m.
