40 years ago today, the ribbon was cut on an icon of the New York skyline.

It was today in 1973 that the World Trade Center officially opened.

Of course, we all know the story from that point, as the iconic towers stood until September 11th, 2001.

But today is a day to remember, respect, and honor the feelings, thoughts, and emotions that go along with those unforgettable images of New York's former skyline.

And of course, the new memories that will be made as The Big Apple's skyline evolves as the glass facade of One World Trade Center nears completion.

Feel free to share your memories of the Twin Towers in the comments section.
