A wrong-way crash on the Garden State Parkway Sunday led to the arrest of an Ocean County woman for heroin possession, NJ State Police said in a statement.

Brenna Haase, 37, of Forked River was charged with assault, possession of heroin, possession of a hypodermic syringe, possession of drug paraphernalia and DWI following the crash at milepost 80.8 on the Garden State Parkway in Toms River.

According to authorities, state troopers responded to the southbound side of the Garden State Parkway at 2:47 p.m. for a report of a two-car crash. Police said that based on a preliminary investigation, detectives determined that Haase had been traveling northbound in a Hyundai Accent when she lost control of her car, traveled over the center median and crashed into a Nissan Maxima driven by 52-year-old John Delaney of Toms River. Delaney also had a juvenile passenger in the vehicle. Both were transported to Community Medical Center with minor injuries, police said..

During the course of an investigation, authorities say they also found Haase to be in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. She was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center with minor injuries.

Troopers from the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Unit, Crime Scene Investigations Unit, Galloway Station and detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office are continuing to investigate the crash. State police say additional charges against Haas are pending. No information on bail has been made available.
