They screamed and chanted. They waved. They cheered.

An estimated 80,000 received tickets to Pope Francis' processional through Central Park, as he moved on from the Our Lady of Angels School in East Harlem school.

At the school, a line of children had just shrieked "Holy Father, we love you!" as he made his way along a barricade outside, according to multiple reports and video of the visit. In Central Park, on his way to Madison Square Garden to conduct Mass, Pope Francis was met with the same sort of adoration — but from a crowd immeasurably larger.

Pope Francis greeted tens of thousands of people as he moved through the Park in his open-sided popemobile, standing and waving to the crowd.

Images posted to social media were often of the crowds, not the Pope — or the Pope was a distant figure behind a mass of people, many with their arms up, many with cell phones in hand.

"Ours of standing in line/waiting for 10 seconds of the Pope, but totally worth it. He has the sweetest smile," wrote Instagram user "ladyjannes26."

Instagram user "clarapyo" wrote that "Being in the presence of Pope Francis even if it was short-lived, was the most breathtaking experience ever."
