Here we go as it seems all the models and all the forecasters agree that Winter Storm Jonas is going to be a problem for us at the Jersey Shore.

As always the question is how much of a problem? The answer might lie in exactly where you live because the line between significant snow and a major grade A snowstorm cuts through the shore area so what happens in Manahawkin may be quite a bit different than Jackson.

Snow is likely not the only problem for many as strong winds and coastal flooding is a major concern, especially in areas where Sandy is more than just a faint memory. Clearly most of us should at least prepare for the possibility of power outages especially when you combine high winds what what’s expected to be wet and heavy snow. At the very least make sure you have flashlights and candles.

The only good news is that a weekend storm comes when schools are closed and many would be home anyway. With few travelers that will allow crews to deal with the cleanup which obviously will likely begin Sunday morning at some point once the snow stops. Schools are already having conversations about Monday and it would not surprise me if many are closed or at the very least have delayed openings. You can get that information over the weekend by visiting wobm.com.

Tomorrow should be a time where common sense prevails as during the height of the storm going out for a cup of coffee might not be the smartest move. If you have not done so already make plans today to be housebound until at least some time Sunday or even Monday.

Another plus is that temperatures are expected to be above freezing right after the storm passes and well into the 40s by early next week so hopefully the white stuff won’t stick around long. If you have health issues or a bad back see if you can connect with a neighbor who might have teenagers willing to shovel and earn some money.

This is a good weekend to work around the house or start a new book or check out Netflix. Make sure you have a bottle of red and a bottle of white. it might help get you through Saturday night. (I know that’s corny but what do you expect for free)?
