Frustrated iPhone and Apple users may have noticed their browsers "crashing" whenever they attempt to search for something in Safari. Turns out, the problem was worldwide.

According to CNN Money, the glitch, which lasted about seven hours - and may continue for anyone who hasn't changed their settings or restarted their device - affected iPhone, iPad and Mac customers trying to launch Safari, which is Apple's built-in internet browser.

Apple said the Safari issue had been fixed by around 10.45 a.m. Eastern time, CNN Money reported. Apple did not comment on the cause of the glitch.

Earlier this week, Apple released the latest version of the iOS system, but CNN reports that the problem is not likely a result of the new operating system, since Safari was also crashing on Mac laptop and desktop computers.

Frustrated users posted on social media Wednesday regarding the outage. A quick fix to the problem involved going into the settings on your device, going to "Safari" and turning off "Safari suggestions."

The bug appeared to affect iO8 and 9 and the latest version of El Capitan OS X 10.11.1.

Apple Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri told The Associated Press on Tuesday that 1 billion Apple devices are now in active use around the world.
