If you've driven Water Street in Toms River lately, especially at night, you may have done a double take. No, your eyes are not deceiving you, those are indeed 8 foot tall Revolutionary soldiers standing guard at the corner of Huddy Park.

As we told you about back in the summer, the park is being totally revamped to both make the landscaping more elaborate, and to put more of a focus on Toms River's rich Revolutionary War past.

In addition to the new landscaping and gazebos, the historic Block House that stands on the Toms River itself, is also being rebuilt and made more of a historic focus of the park.

The project is scheduled to be completed in time for the town's 250th anniversary celebrations in 2017.

So no, those aren't apparitions that you're seeing, but representations of our town's deep roots in American history.
