Concetta DeRosa was in the crosswalk at Swift Circle when a 2003 Lincoln Town Car driven by Frank Cinque, 79, also of Whiting, bore down on her, according to township police.

She landed on the pavement after the impact and was treated there for a possible broken arm and bruises, then driven by Whiting Volunteer First-Aiders to Community Medical Center in Toms River, police said.

Cinque had been belted into his seat and was not injured, police said. The incident is still under investigation.

Manchester authorities remind drivers that stopping to let a pedestrian cross a road within a marked crosswalk is a state law.

On a related note, township police are among some three dozen departments around the state taking part in the three-week distracted-driving crackdown, U Text, U Drive, U Pay, running through April 21.
