Whiting Man Hurt in Manchester Crash
A Manchester man battles back from serious injuries after a crash in the township in which his car took the full force of a dump truck loaded with sand.
Police say Thomas E. Graf, 53, of Whiting, was driving his 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup along Route 539 Saturday morning, about to turn left onto Lincoln Boulevard. According to police, the 2006 Peterbilt driven by Thomas Manning, 63, of East Windsor, plowed into the pickup and careened into nearby woods.
Graf was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment. Manning was treated on scene for minor injuries.
The investigation and extrication of vehicles resulted in a multiple-hour shutdown of the highway between Harry Wright Boulevard and Hegstrom Avenue.
Police are still poring over details and are looking for witnesses. Manchester PD Patrolman Paul Bachovchin is in charge at 732-657-2009, extension 6356.
Assisting police were members of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department and First-Aid, MONOC paramedics, the Ocean County Sheriff’s and Road Departments, Manchester Public Works and Grone’s Wrecker Service.
