When planning a day at an Ocean County beach, there are a few vitally important things to consider - which beach you'll spend the day at, how you're going to get there (and avoid the worst of the traffic), and what you're going to bring.

One of the best parts of spending my Friday afternoons at the Community Medical Center Seaside Park Boardwalk Studio is the people watching.

And you really get it all.

From young couples who find a perfect spot of sand and then, let's say "get to know each other better", to families who look like they're practically moving in, there's an amazing variety of how people prep for a day on the sand.

Obviously, the main goal is to relax so taking the essentials without overdoing it is a bit of an art.

Off the top of my head, if you're going to spend more than an hour or so at the beach, I'd make this list of the things that you have to have:

  • Sunscreen
  • Blankets
  • Beach Chairs
  • Cold drinks
  • Games or toys

From there, people can get pretty elaborate. I've seen people who wheel whole carts onto the beach with full multi-course picnics, big game setups (I'm talking full size volleyball sets), and even beach tents.

So when you're planning a day at the beach, what are the items that you always make sure to bring with you? Tell us in the comments section!
