What Did You Think of the American Idol Premiere?

The new season of American Idol kicked off last night with a new look, at least on the judging panel.

Idol is one of those shows where the more things change, the more they stay the same. While there are three new faces on the judging panel, the formula that has worked so well for 8 years is still the same.

We had the embarrassingly bad auditions, the fantastic singers, and the tear jerking backstories.

But most of us were paying attention to the new judges; Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, and Nicki Minaj.

Last night seemed to be the Nicki Minaj show. She piped up at every audition, talked over the other judges, and bizarrely switched into a British accent at random. There did seem to be some tension between her and Mariah, who more or less kept a low profile.

And of course last night's episode closed with a tease for tonight's blowup on the judging panel.
