This is one of the best seasons for farm stands. From pumpkins and other squash, to apples and of course New Jersey's signature cranberries, fall produce is some of the best.

Traveling through Ocean County, you don't have to go far to find any number of roadside stands selling incredible local food.

If I had to pick a favorite though, it wouldn't necessarily be a fruit or vegetable.

I love local honey.

It wasn't until I was living in Central Pennsylvania that I learned to really appreciate local honey.

Harrisburg, PA hosts the famous Pennsylvania Farm Show, where you can pretty much find everything you could imagine that comes from a farm.

It was there that I learned that there is a big, big difference between the honey that comes in the goofy grocery store plastic bear, and true artisan honey.

I never knew that honey could be everything from a pale yellow to dark brown. I never knew that one honey could taste totally different from another. And I'd certainly never heard of raw honey.

But I can tell you one thing - I'll never go back to grocery store plastic bear honey.

Thankfully, here in Ocean County and beyond you can get local honey at any number of local stands, natural food stores, and farm markets.

So what are your favorite fall farm market buys? Tell us in the comments!
