Brick is already home to food stores like Shop-Rite, Stop and Shop, Top Tomato and Walmart but Mayor Ducey said residents want to see a Wegmans.

"What I hear from the residents the most is that Wegmans has some of the best produce around," said Ducey. "They have an unbelievable selection of prepared foods, and the prices are also reasonable."

Between phone calls, emails and social media postings Ducey said hundreds of residents have already reached out.

Should the company open up a location at Laurel Square Plaza Ducey said residents from other towns like Barnegat and Bayville said they would shop at Wegmans in Brick.

The land opened up after Pathmark went out of business.

"There is enough space there in order to accommodate a Wegmans," said Ducey. "I know they like lots of room because we had looked into Wegmans in the past for the old Food-town site on Route 70 but there wasn't enough area for them to build."

One thing Ducey said residents may continue doing in hopes of Wegman's officially coming to Brick relays to social media.

"Use the (hashtag) #BrickTownshipwantsaWegmans," said Ducey. "This way we can compile all the information into one spot and present it to the corporate officials at Wegmans."
