Weekend starts with emergency repairs on Rt 72 in Ship Bottom

Emergency repairs are in place on Route 72 in Ship Bottom, and there is no question that it's going to impact traffic heading for Long Beach Island.

Word from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is that replacement of a collapsed drainage pipe under the eastbound side of the highway requires breaking through the pavement.

Two travel lanes remain open but they'll have a shift to the right through Saturday morning, then will be moved to the left to complete the repairs.

NJDOT has message signs runnning to alert drivers not yet in the thick of it, but they are warning that there will be delays and congestion.
