Religion is one subject I’ve learned to stay away from for two reasons.

I admit to not having strong beliefs and those that are passionate in what they believe don’t want to hear other sides. With that said I’m looking to put the Christmas back in Christmas.

In these politically-correct times I deplore the notion that you can’t wish someone a Merry Christmas without worrying if you’ve offended them. Sure I realize that not everyone celebrates Christmas but without now offending Christians the holiday is much more than a religious one to many of us.

It’s a celebration of the season, a time to express good feelings to our fellow man, even those we don’t know well.  In many cases it’s a time to put ill feelings aside and often provides (even for a brief period) a nice interruption in the daily malaise that effects so many.

I know December 25th is a religious holiday but Christmas is not about one day but a season that hopefully features good cheer and good feelings along with plenty of Christmas music (although I could go without Dominic the Donkey and I Saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus).

However, we’ve taken many wonderful traditions and been told you can’t do that any longer.  I was in a local post office the other day and told by an employee not only can’t they play Christmas music but they can’t even display a Christmas tree.  This is now common; just like for many the need to wish someone “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.”  Even if they don’t celebrate it most accept that wish in the spirit it was meant.

I recognize that times are different and understand the so-called separation of church and state.  I’m good with including other celebrations during this time of year and see nothing wrong with displaying a Menorah next to a Christmas tree. But we have let the minority dictate the majority to a point where Santa Claus can’t be front and center but rather has to stay in the background. That’s not political correctness it’s a bunch of garbage.

More than ever we need a little Christmas in our life.  After all, tis the season to be jolly and that goes for everyone.
