Water leak upends service, traffic on the outskirts of downtown Toms River
A water leak is disrupting service to homes and business just north of downtown Toms River, along Main Street, south of Route 37.
SUEZ says, via Facebook, that the leak is centered 707 Main Street, and the affected area stretches about a block, between Colfax and Seward. Traffic is being detoured around the spot.
The company says that customers are being notified in person, door-to-door. In the vicinity outlined by the utility are a florists's shop, a funeral parlor, a parochial preschool, a dermatology center and a small restaurant.
A SUEZ spokesperson did not speculate on the cause of the leak or the time frame for repairs, but said that it does not rise to the criticality level of a boil advisory. An inquiry regarding the possible number of customers without water, and contingencies if so, drew no immediate response.
