The weather has been pretty unusual the last couple of months, including a milder than normal winter. Unfortunately, this means that fleas and ticks could be a big problem this year.

Anyone who has dogs has struggled with at least a few tick removal operations in their lives, no matter how well you protect your pups.

I've had Sydney for about 7 or 8 years now, and in the last month alone I've pulled more ticks off of her than I have in all the years that I've had her.

I use a monthly flea and tick preventative, and thankfully all of the ticks that I've found hadn't attached and fed yet, but I've still been surprised by the number that I've had to pick off so far.

Yesterday we stopped by the vet for a checkup (at the wonderful offices of Bricktown Veterinary Hospital), and the doctor that we saw said that they've seen an unusually high number of ticks so far and expect that fleas will be even worse.

If you use a monthly flea and tick medicine, it's still a good idea to check your pup well when coming in from a walk or playing outside, and of course it's always a good idea to check yourself too. Fido may have Frontline or Advantix, but you don't!
